All You Need to Know About Odisha NEET Counselling 2026
Thousands of Odisha students every year go looking for an "OJEE MBBS entrance exam." It does not exist.
Odisha Joint Entrance Examination (OJEE) conducts no entrance test at all for MBBS or BDS. It is purely a counselling authority. Your eligibility comes from one exam only, NEET, and OJEE simply takes your NEET score and allots you a seat in Odisha.
So the Odisha JEE MBBS pathway is: qualify Re NEET 2026, register with OJEE, fill choices, get allotted. Nothing more. This year the process runs on Re NEET 2026 scores, since the original May 3, 2026 exam was cancelled over paper leak allegations and re-held on June 21, 2026.
OJEE MBBS Counselling 2026 Highlights
Where Odisha's MBBS and BDS Seats Actually Sit?
The split is not intuitive, and getting it wrong sends candidates chasing seats through the wrong counselling body.
MBBS seats under OJEE counselling for MBBS:
85% of seats in government medical colleges (the state quota)
100% of seats in private medical colleges, namely Hi-Tech Medical College Bhubaneswar, Hi-Tech Medical College Rourkela, and Dream Medical College Cuttack
BDS seats under OJEE MBBS BDS counselling:
85% of seats at SCB Dental College, Cuttack
100% of seats at the Hi-Tech Dental Colleges
The remaining 15% of government college seats go to the All India Quota and are filled by MCC, not OJEE.
The Odisha Colleges OJEE Can Never Give You
This is where candidates lose an entire admission cycle. Some of Odisha's biggest names sit completely outside OJEE counselling, and no amount of choice filling on ojee.nic.in will reach them.
If a deemed university or AIIMS is on your wishlist, you must register separately on mcc.nic.in. Registering only with OJEE means those seats are simply invisible to you.
SGS Quota, Odisha's Most Underused Advantage
The SGS quota is the single most overlooked opportunity in Odisha JEE counselling.
It is reserved for candidates who studied Class 10 and Class 12 in Odia-medium government schools within Odisha. Because the eligible pool is small, the closing ranks under SGS are noticeably softer than in the general state pool.
Two things worth knowing:
SC and ST candidates can also claim SGS, so the quotas stack rather than cancel out.
You will need proof of Odia-medium government schooling for both Class 10 and Class 12 at verification.
If you qualify, this is often the difference between a government seat and no seat at all.
NRI Quota, and Why It Only Exists in Private Colleges
Roughly 15% of seats in Odisha's private medical colleges are reserved for NRI candidates. Government colleges in Odisha carry no NRI quota whatsoever.
Approximate NRI seat counts:
Similarly, the EWS quota works the other way round. It applies only in government medical colleges and is not available in private ones.
Odisha MBBS Counselling Fees, Government vs Private vs NRI
The gap here is severe, and it should shape your choice list long before allotment day.
NRI quota fees (approximate, annual):
Read those numbers carefully before locking an NRI preference. A government seat in Odisha costs less in five years than an NRI seat costs in a single one.
How the Rounds Play Out in OJEE MBBS Counselling 2026?
Odisha runs three main rounds followed by one or two spot rounds, depending on how many seats remain vacant.
Round 1
First allotment, based on your Re NEET rank and locked choices
You may accept the seat or opt to upgrade
Round 2 (OJEE MBBS 2nd round counselling)
Upgrade option remains open
Fresh allotments are made against seats surrendered or left vacant in Round 1
This is the round most candidates improve their college in, so do not sit it out
Round 3
The final round for the bulk of seat allocation
Very limited scope for changes at this stage
Spot Round (1 and 2)
Held only if seats are still vacant
No upgrade option
Admission is direct, based purely on availability
The rule to internalise: upgrades die after Round 3. If you are holding a seat you do not want, Round 2 is your real window, not the spot round.
Odisha MBBS Counselling Date 2026
OJEE has not yet released the official Odisha MBBS counselling date for 2026. The schedule depends entirely on the Re NEET 2026 result, which is expected in late July 2026.
Based on how previous cycles have run, Odisha JEE counselling is likely to open from August 2026, with Round 1 allotment in August, Round 2 in September, Round 3 around October, and spot rounds thereafter.
Track ojee.nic.in for the confirmed notification. Schedule changes in Odisha are often announced with short notice.

No. The NRI quota exists only in private medical colleges, covering roughly 15% of their seats. Government colleges have none.

Not yet announced. It follows the Re NEET 2026 result, which is expected in late July, so counselling is likely to begin around August 2026 on ojee.nic.in.
10. Should I skip OJEE MBBS 2nd round counselling if I already have a seat?
No. Round 2 is where most candidates upgrade to a better college, and your existing seat is not at risk simply by participating. Skipping it usually means settling for less than your rank deserved.
11. Who is eligible for the Odisha state quota?
Candidates who have qualified Re NEET 2026 and hold a valid Odisha residence certificate. Non-domicile candidates can only compete for the 15% All India Quota seats through MCC.
