Who Can Apply for the Pre-RMO Exam?

A student can apply if:

• The student was born between August 1, 2006 and July 31, 2013.

• The student is studying in Class 8, 9, 10, 11, or 12.

• The student is eligible to hold an Indian passport.

• The student has been residing and studying in India since October 30, 2022 or earlier.

• The student has not passed or appeared for the Class 12 board exam before the allowed date.

• The student has not started university-level studies before the specified date.

Pre RMO Age Limit 2026

• The pre-RMO age limit is one of the most important eligibility rules.

• Students born between August 1, 2006 and July 31, 2013, are eligible.

• Students born on or after August 1, 2013, are not eligible.

• Students must also meet the class and academic criteria, as well as the age rule.

• Students should check their date of birth carefully before applying, as an age-related mismatch can lead to disqualification.

Pre RMO Eligibility for Class 8, 9, 10, 11 Students

The Pre RMO eligibility for Class 8, 9, 10, 11 students is based on both age and academic status. Students from these classes can apply if they meet the required conditions for date of birth, nationality, residence, and school education.

Pre RMO Qualification Criteria 2026

The Pre RMO qualification criteria include more than just studying in the right class. Students must also satisfy academic, nationality, and residence conditions.

Students must:

• Be eligible to hold an Indian passport.

• Be studying in the eligible class range.

• Meet the official age limit.

• Follow the residence and study requirements.

• Have not started university or equivalent studies.

• Not having passed or appeared for Class 12 board exams before the permitted date.

Nationality and Passport Requirement

To apply for Pre RMO 2026, students must be eligible to hold an Indian passport. Students with OCI cards may be allowed to participate provisionally in earlier stages, but they may not be eligible to represent India in international Olympiads as per current rules.

This rule may change based on future government or court decisions, so students should check the latest official notification before applying.

Residence and Study Requirement

• Students must have been residing and studying in India since October 30, 2022 or earlier.

• Alternatively, students must have been studying in an Indian school system since October 30, 2022 or earlier.

• Students living abroad but studying in an Indian school system may also apply, but they must come to India to appear for the exam and later stages if selected.

Rules for Students Studying Abroad

Students living outside India but enrolled in an Indian school system may be allowed to appear for Pre RMO 2026.

Such students must:

• Travel to India to write the exam.

• Appear in India for further stages if they qualify.

• Be treated as enrolled from Delhi NCR.

• Follow the same selection criteria applicable to Delhi NCR candidates.

• Bear their own travel expenses to and from India.

Class 12 Board Exam Rule

Students must not have passed or been scheduled to appear for the Class 12 board exam before October 30, 2025.

Students cannot forfeit, cancel, or hide their Class 12 board results to meet the Pre RMO Exam Eligibility rules. Any student using such means may be disqualified from the programme.

University Admission Rule

Students must not have begun studies at a university or an equivalent institution by June 1, 2025.

Students who plan to start university-level education by this date are also ineligible for the exam.

Special Rule for INMO Awardees

INMO 2026 awardees may be allowed to appear directly for INMO 2027 without qualifying through Pre RMO 2026 and RMO 2026, provided they meet the required age, academic, university admission, and international Olympiad eligibility criteria.

OCI students are not eligible to represent India in IMO 2027 and EGMO 2027 under the current rules.

Important Note on Pre RMO Eligibility

Students are responsible for checking that they meet all Pre RMO Eligibility Criteria 2026 before applying. If a student is found ineligible at any later stage, they may be removed from the Olympiad selection process.
